Prime Minister Vladimir Putin meets with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on a visit to Kiev
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said that a completely new atmosphere of trust and willingness to cooperate on major economic and social issues has been created in Russian-Ukrainian relations. In turn, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych expressed the hope that Mr Putin’s visit to Kiev will be productive and that both parties, as always, will find many solutions to topical issues.
“The main issue on the agenda is not even about the volume of trade but a change in its quality. We must modernise our economies to create new high-paying jobs, and we are fully capable of doing so.”
“We are willing to continue our dialogue on all issues of concern to both parties, and I am confident that we will always find mutually acceptable solutions,” the Russian prime minister said following talks in Kiev.
“Our goal is to improve living standards in the regions beyond the Urals and to make Siberia attractive to people, all within ten years. In fact, Siberia will need a new industrialisation plan to realise its competitive advantages.”
“This book is necessary. Without knowing what’s in these pages, it is impossible to have a complete understanding of our country and difficult to reflect on where it’s headed,” the prime minister told Natalya Solzhenitsyna.
