“The scale, the territory, the population, and natural resources are inalienable components of a great power. Had we seen the meaning of this phrase better and not reduced it to a cliché, we would probably have been more careful with what we have inherited from the previous generations of Russians, all citizens of Russia, who lived in this territory and worked hard to accumulate the wealth which we are using now and which we must protect.”

Vladimir Putin held a meeting of the Foreign Investment Advisory Council

“New Russia had to start building a market economy and creating modern legal institutions practically from scratch, in very difficult conditions. Our partners – foreign companies which invested in Russia – did not find it easy, either. Nevertheless, I am confident that the majority of our foreign partners did not regret their choice. This is demonstrated by numerous successful projects in the Russian economy.”

Vladimir Putin gave an interview for NTV Television’s documentary “The Wall”

"Human history has known many barrier and division lines and structures. One of the most famous is the Great Wall of China. I think that it is the only man-made structure visible from space. But why is it still standing after hundreds of years? Because it protected a nation, while the Berlin Wall divided one. That, of course, was its unnatural aspect. It was clear to me that in the modern world, it is impossible to confine a nation and have it remain confined."

All the more so since United Russia is represented in all regions, and has a majority in most regional parliaments."

Vladimir Putin chaired a meeting of the Government Presidium

“The recent tragedy at the Sayano-Shushenskaya electric power station reminded us how cautious we must be while dealing with infrastructure security. Operating without accidents and meeting the demands of the economy and ordinary people are the main criteria by which we must evaluate the effectiveness of an energy system. Clearly, this can be achieved by thoroughly modernising electric power stations and distribution networks, and refurbishing obsolete facilities with reliable cutting-edge and high-capacity equipment.”
