Prime Minister Vladimir Putin meets with Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov
Vladimir Putin said at the meeting that a certain quick response style had evolved between Russia and Ukraine. “The quality of our relations has changed drastically. In effect, we are reaching pre-crisis trade levels. This is a very good sign,” the Russian prime minister noted.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin stated that the merger of the aircraft industries of Russia and Ukraine is inevitable, but that the merger must be based solely on market principles. The prime minister explained that this will require an independent appraisal of the market value of the two countries’ aircraft companies. The prime minister emphasised that these appraisals must form the basis for deciding which sectors to merge and to what extent.
"We must set the priorities for the advancement of university sports in the government’s strategy for the development of physical fitness. Our key priority is to dramatically increase the number of university students going in for sports, from 35% in 2009 to 80% by the year 2020. This number holds the key to our future and to future generations of healthy and strong young Russians."
In the run-up to the Russian Youth Day celebrations, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Federal Agency for Youth Affairs Yakemenko discussed youth policy priorities for the near future, the agency’s work with troubled adolescents and gifted youth, and the agency’s relations with other government ministries and agencies in terms of implementing youth policy.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin meets with Kemerovo Region Governor Aman Tuleyev
Mr Tuleyev reported on the implementation of the prime minister’s directives to raise the average wage in the coal industry. Mr Putin and Mr Tuleyev also discussed welfare issues in the region, including health services, construction of welfare facilities and a programme to tear down dilapidated and structurally unsound housing stock.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and head of the Federal Agency for Water Resources Marina Seliverstova discussed Russia’s water management strategy, which was put in place a year ago, as well as the ministry’s efforts to monitor flooding. They also discussed the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station.
