Prime Minister Vladimir Putin meets with Vitaly Mutko, Minister of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy

The two officials discussed expansion of the existing federal targeted programme to boost grassroots sports. They discussed ways to accelerate the construction of sports facilities, including those for winter sports, and projects in which Russian regions would focus on the development of specific kinds of sport. The Prime Minister also mentioned potential uses for the Olympic facilities in Sochi after 2014.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin meets with President of the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge

Vladimir Putin and Jacques Rogge discussed the construction of Olympic venues, including the Olympic University, the foundation stone of which has been laid today. The prime minister expressed his hope that the university would become “a successful, important and necessary institution that will promote the Olympic values and train necessary specialists.”

“It’s time to launch another project: we must lay the foundation stone for the future Russian International Olympic University. We are grateful to the International Olympic Committee for supporting this project. Five hundred students will study at this university, and 150 educators will work here. We cherish our traditions of training athletes,” Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said at the ceremony.
