Prime Minister Vladimir Putin meets with Transport Minister Igor Levitin

The two officials discussed state guarantees for companies involved in joint construction projects with the government to build national infrastructure facilities. The prime minister said a relevant government resolution would in fact pave the way for concession agreements between the state and private business.

“Brest was the place where the war began for our fathers and grandfathers. Brest is associated with the heroism of the Soviet people and is one of the most vivid examples of devotion to the Fatherland, self-sacrifice and heroism,” said Prime Minister Putin after expressing his gratitude to his Belarusian counterpart for the invitation to meet in Brest.

As the Russian Prime Minister said, the joint action plan to minimise the results of the global financial crisis has brought tangible fruit already. Particularly, Russian-Belarusian trade grew 17% in January, compared to January 2009. “This is a good achievement,” Mr Putin said.

“I am confident that we will commemorate Victory Day honourably. We will pay due respects to those who perished in battle, and grant moral and material support to the veterans of the Great Patriotic War. It is our sacred duty,” said Prime Minister Putin.
