“All our plans will be carried out in compliance with the toughest environmental standards. A careful, civilised attitude to nature is a requirement of all development programmes. Active economic development of the Arctic will be beneficial only if we maintain a rational balance between economic interests and environmental protection for the long term, not just for 10, 15 or 20 years.”
“I hope this is only the beginning of our joint efforts to explore the Arctic, to study it and to work out regulations of international conduct in this region,” the Russian Prime Minister told the Prince of Monaco.
The parties discussed cooperation in the Arctic as well as bilateral trade and economic relations. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin noted that bilateral trade and economic cooperation increased by over 80% in the first six month of this year.
The results of the socio-economic development of the region over the past six months, as well as the situation in the social sphere, especially improvements in healthcare and education were discussed at the meeting. They focused particularly on increasing teachers’ salaries and on housing construction.
