The two officials discussed large investment projects currently underway in Bashkortostan, its infrastructure as well as the socio-economic situation of the republic in general. In the opinion of the prime minister, if all such projects are a success, Bashkortostan is poised to reaffirm its reputation as one of Russia's leading industrial centres.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin holds a meeting on the situation around the nuclear power plant in Japan

Even the worst-case scenario at Japan's nuclear power plants poses no threat to Russia's Far East. This was the main conclusion reached by conference participants. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin nonetheless ordered a review of the current condition, future plans and development prospects for Russia's nuclear industry. He also proposed accelerating oil and gas projects in the Far East to increase supplies to Japan.

“United Russia should value every mandate it receives from voters to help solve people’s problems,” said Vladimir Putin at the meeting. He also noted that “the best election strategy for a leading political party is to get things done.”
