The discussion centered on the situation related to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Among other things, Mr Putin instructed officials to study the issue of increasing the supply of hydrocarbons to Japan, and to re-verify the readiness of the manpower and resources in the event of situations of this kind.

During his meeting with US Vice President Joe Biden, Vladimir Putin proposed taking a step of historical significance by introducing visa-free travel between Russia and the United States.He said it would create an absolutely new moral atmosphere in relations between the United States and Russia. Mr Biden said it was a good idea.
