At the meeting, Mr Putin, Mr Khristenko and Mr Dmitrieyev discussed last year’s performance of the defence industry and its future prospects. The Prime Minister stressed that output in the sector rose in 2009. Special attention was given to the export of Russian-made arms, where a growth trend emerged.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin meets with Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov
Mr Putin and Mr Ivanov discussed the creation of and main stages for introducing the Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS). The two leaders emphasised the need to commercialise the system.
They discussed integration in the post-Soviet space, in particular the newly established Customs Union, economic relations between Russia and Kazakhstan, which as Mr Putin said have been “making decent progress despite all the crises,” as well as the outcome of the Ukrainian presidential election.
The officials discussed preparations for the Nord Stream gas pipeline project, which is nearing completion, as Mr Putin said.
Mr Putin said the Housing and Utilities Reform Fund has proved to be an effective instrument for resolving the housing problems of hundreds of thousands of Russians, and said the Fund’s head should continue working in this vein this year. He also asked him to supervise the planned resettlement of people from dilapidated housing and capital repairs of residential blocks.
“Last year was quite challenging. Many economies suffered significant downturns, but Russian agriculture managed to buck the trend. Its success was made possible by the daily work of 300,000 Russian farmers. <...> Last year the government prioritised land issues, the development of family cattle farms and consumer cooperation, and we have remained focused on these issues throughout the year.”
