Prime Minister Vladimir Putin holds talks with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban

According to Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, the current meeting was long overdue because both sides had many issues to discuss in the energy, transportation and high-tech sectors. Putin emphasised that Hungary is one of Russia’s priority partners in Central Europe and expressed the hope that Hungary’s upcoming presidency of the European Union (EU) would promote EU cooperation with Russia.

The discussion focused on employment. The FNPR president said unemployment levels had already come close to the pre-crisis level. Trade union participation in healthcare modernisation was also on the agenda. It would be hard to solve those problems without trade unions, the prime minister said.

Mr Putin noted positive economic trends in the Kursk Region, particularly increasing trade and average income. At the same time, he pointed out the decline in housing construction and decreasing capital investment.
