Prime Minister Vladimir Putin meets with university students in Tomsk
“I really like talking to audiences like this one,” the prime minister told the students. “I always enjoy it, but it’s especially nice on St Tatyana’s day, the day of Russian students.”
The meeting focused on the economic situation in the region, which, according to the prime minister, is “a leader in many areas.”
The conversation focused on the opening of League games, which have just started in Tomsk and will be held in 75 Russian regions. The top 90 teams will go on to Moscow for the finals. The prime minister also said that he planned to hold celebrations in Moscow for the 40th anniversary of the historical series of matches between the NHL and the Soviet national teams.
The prime minister asked if the federal and regional authorities and the mine owners have done what they promised to do, if they have paid out compensation, provided tuition for the miners’ children, resolved housing problems and helped with the repayment of loans.
After the meeting, the prime minister signed a long-term programme for the development of the coal industry to 2030.
The prime minister emphasised in his speech at the rally that “this nation has always leaned on the powerful and strong shoulder of miners or steel workers, especially during hard times.”
