Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's visit to Abkhazia

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, on a working visit in Abkhazia, met with President Sergei Bagapsh of Abkhazia, after which they gave a news conference. A little later, Mr Putin met with the Elders Council of Abkhazia and representatives of the opposition. At the end of the visit, the sides signed an agreement between the Government of the Republic of Abkhazia and the Government of the Russian Federation on the rendering of aid to Abkhazia in social and economic development.

“We said it many times to the present Georgian leadership. I personally called on them to have patience and to win respect, prestige and trust both in Abkhazia and in South Ossetia. And it is only in this way – I believe it now and said as much at that time – that their territorial integrity could be achieved.”

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov held a meeting of the Organising Committee for Russian athletes’ participation in the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver

When opening the meeting, Mr Zhukov, who is also the committee’s chairman, announced: “Our main objective is to create perfect conditions for our athletes so that they may achieve the maximum results.”

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin met with Venezuelan Minister of Energy and Petroleum Rafael Ramirez

First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov chaired a videoconference with Russian Governors

“The growth rates are modest–about 1% – but they are real. Last year we had exceptional weather, and agricultural production volumes showed a record increase. This year the situation is different: There has been a cut in budget allocations, a fall in consumer demand and poor weather in a number of regions,” Mr Zubkov said.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s visit to Stavropol Territory

During his working trip to the Southern Federal District, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin visited the Narzan Valley health resort in Kislovodsk, and was informed on plans for tourism and recreation investment projects in the Stavropol Territory. Mr Putin also held a meeting of the Government’s Commission on Regional Development in Kislovodsk.
