Visit to Republic of Khakassia

"A major accident took place here at the Sayano-Shushenskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant in Khakassia on Monday. One of the worst in recent memory; a number of people were killed or are missing. This is a tragedy. We have just talked to the rescue workers. They go through a lot in their work, but even their nerves are frayed by what they have seen. We will restore the hardware, but human losses are irretrievable. This is the worst disaster. "I would like to express again my condolences to the families of the dead and injured, and at the same time to thank the rescue teams, medical technicians, and engineers – all those who have responded in a timely and coherent manner, and who have prevented even more tragedy."
