Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s visit to Sverdlovsk Region

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin arrived in the Sverdlovsk Region on a working visit, where he visited the Nizhny Tagil Institute of Metals Research, the Uralvagonzavod research and production company and the Urals Railway Engineering Plant. Vladimir Putin also held a meeting on supplying the Russian Armed Forces with modern armour and vehicular equipment and met with Sverdlovsk Region Governor Alexander Misharin.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, in Perm on a working trip, laid flowers outside the night club where a tragedy occurred on December 5.

First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov met with Premier of Quebec Jean Charest

Mr Zubkov and Mr Charest discussed current issues regarding Russian and Canadian cooperation in trade, the economy, agriculture, the energy industry, mechanical engineering, education and culture. They discussed in particular detail the participation of Canadian, especially Quebec, companies in Sochi Olympic projects. “I also consider our Olympic cooperation important, including the construction of the transport infrastructure for the 2014 Winter Olympics,” said Mr Zubkov.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin visited the Vishnevsky Research Institute of Surgery, where he held a conference call on the organisation of work by the Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development to deal with the aftermath of a night club fire in Perm

“Every necessary measure is being taken to investigate the circumstances of this tragedy. The Emergencies Ministry is conducting additional inspections on concert halls, clubs and other similar facilities of mass recreation. This work has started. But the main thing now is to save those who have suffered burns and injuries. Many are in serious condition.”

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin chaired a meeting of the Council of General and Chief Designers, Leading Scientists and Professionals of High-Tech Industries

“The investigation into the causes of the recent accident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant has shown a number of reasons for the tragedy such as violations of technology regulations and the inadequate quality of equipment and of legislation. This is why we must make prompt decisions to ensure fundamentally new standards of safety and reliability for power generating facilities.”
