Vladimir Putin held a meeting with Transport Minister Igor Levitin
Mr Putin and Mr Levitin discussed the industry’s performance in 2008, and the agreed position on a state-run transport leasing company. They also talked about jobs in road construction and subsidies for air travel to the Far East.
The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that the commission meeting and other efforts would “advance Russian-Cuban cooperation to a new level, including in the field of trade and economic relations.”
The Commission approved a Draft Government resolution vesting the Transport Ministry of the Russian Federation with the functions of organising road traffic.
The two men discussed the development of integration between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, including joint efforts to deal with the consequences of the world financial crisis.
The meeting focused on the current situation in Norilsk Nickel, its effect on the social sphere, and a proposal to abolish export duties on nickel as well as significantly reduce or abolish duties on several types of copper and copper alloys

“These plans and tasks remain unchanged. The situation in the world economy and finances is not developing well, and this is affecting Russia. However, citizens should have an opportunity to resolve their housing problems, and have the right to rely on the Government’s support regardless of what is happening.”
