First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov presided over a regular meeting of the Road Safety Commission

The Commission approved a Draft Government resolution vesting the Transport Ministry of the Russian Federation with the functions of organising road traffic.

Taking part in the meeting were the head of Rosavtodor, O. Belozerov, Chief Road Traffic Inspector of Russia Viktor Kiryanov, as well as representatives of the ministries and agencies which are members of the Commisison.

The Commission approved a Draft Government resolution vesting the Transport Ministry of the Russian Federation with the functions of organising road traffic.

Also discussed were amendments to the traffic rules dealing with the installation of signs on vehicles driven by drivers with less than three years' driving experience. The amendments are to be adopted by the end of January. Mr Kiryanov reported that a new administrative procedure of the Interior Ministry on the registration of motor vehicles would come into force as of January 27, 2009 setting a precise timeframe for registration.

Deputy Minister of Education and Science Isaak Kalina briefed the Commission members on the introduction, as of January 1, 2009, of new requirements to the equipment of driving schools as well as requirements to the qualification of instructors in such schools.

The Commission also discussed aspects of interaction between drivers and traffic policemen.
