First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gazprom.

“I will put the interests of the state first and as a Government member I deem it my duty to effectively strike a balance between the interests of the state and the development of the company,” Mr Zubkov stressed.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin chaired a meeting of the State Border Commission

"Under the Federal Targeted Programme we have allocated considerable resources to develop the key sections of the state border. The creation of the border infrastructure in the North Caucasus, where the terrorist threat is particularly high, has practically been completed. Seventy-two border posts, seven border offices, housing and social amenities have been built there from scratch. I deliberately give you the figures to emphasise the scale of the work done - it is very large."

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin had a working meeting with the Venezuelan Vice President Ramon Carrizales

"Our cooperation is developing and is becoming more and more diversified. Already the main areas in the economic sphere have been identified: they are energy and mining. Early Russian investments are flowing into Venezuela. A Venezuelan company has been bought by a Russian investor."

Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin made a business trip to the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), where he visited several fuel and energy facilities to monitor the construction of the East Siberia-Pacific Ocean oil pipeline

The Government delegation visited the Verkhnechonskoye and Talakanskoye oil and gas condensate deposits, and attended the groundbreaking ceremony for a school in Vitim.

First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov has conducted a meeting of the Government Road Safety Commission

According to the First Deputy Prime Minister, the Ministry of Transport jointly with the Governments of Moscow and the Moscow Region have prepared a programme for the development of the transport infrastructure in Moscow and the region until 2015.

“In addition to significant state investments, we also expect to see considerable contributions from private investment. The Russian nuclear power industry is now open for interaction, both with Russian businesses and with foreign capital,” he said.
