Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin met with Igor Artemyev, head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service

The directions of the strengthening of the legal base in struggle against cartels were discussed during the meeting.

First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov chaired a meeting of the Government Commission on Protective Measures in Foreign Trade and Customs and Tariff Policy

The Commission decided to introduce a zero import duty on ceramic carriers for automobile catalytic converters. “It was deemed practicable to abolish these duties so that the vehicles assembled in Russia meet environmental standards,” Mr Zubkov clarified.

In the course of a working trip to the town of Elektrostal Prime Minister Vladimir Putin chaired a conference on the problems of development of the atomic industry

"In the mid-term we shall have to switch over to a new technology level. I mean a closed fuel cycle and commercial fast neutron reactor development. The Targeted Programme Atomic Energy Technologies of the New Generation must meet this challenge. The development of the Programme should be accomplished by November. One of the main demands facing the industry is the observance of safety measures."

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin had a meeting with Murat Zyazikov, President of the Republic of Ingushetia

The development plans of the region including the work on increasing of the birth rate and the solving of financial questions were discussed during the meeting.

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov held a meeting of the Russian tripartite commission for the regulation of social and labour relations

The commission also discussed a draft concept of action on the labour market in 2008-2010. It suggested that the Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development should submit within two months a draft plan for the concept's implementation and that both documents should be considered at one of its future meetings.

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov conducted a phone conference with a number of regional leaders on the implementation of the priority Health National Project in the first half of 2008

He noted positive demographic changes, particularly an increase in the birth rate, progress in rendering high-tech medical aid, and higher salaries for medical workers.
