Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s visit to France

During the second day of the visit to France Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin met with former French President Jacques Chirac and with author Maurice Druon as well as visited the Museum of His Majesty’s Cossack Regiment of the Guards.

The Ministry of Finance has been given one month to develop the concept of creating an international financial centre in Russia, told First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov

The First Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that the idea of creating an international financial centre in Russia was first proposed by President Putin in February 2008.

Speaking at the conference on corporate management and the globalization of the world economy, Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov said that the investment into the development of the infrastructure in Russia through 2020 will exceed one trillion dollars

"The resources accumulated by Russia in the last eight years have allowed it to overcome the world financial crisis rather smoothly, and to retain high and steady rates of economic growth," he said.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s visit to France

During the first day of the visit to France Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin held talks with his French counterpart Francois Fillon and met with French president Nicolas Sarkozy.

"Obviously, we cannot do without introducing modern approaches to organising scientific research, or without promoting competition in the scientific environment. This is the only way if we are to translate investments into the growing effectiveness of our science, into the creation of intellectual products."

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin held a meeting of the Governmental Commission for Budgetary Projections for the Next Fiscal Year and the Plan Period at the Government House.

"On our agenda today are amendments to the federal budget for the current year 2008 and the plan period 2009-2010, and also amendments to the budgets of the Pension Fund, the social and medical insurance funds. Today we are to put a final seal on the proposed amendments."

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin held a meeting with new head of the Federal Financial Monitoring Service Yury Chikhanchin

Monitoring the budgetary assets invested in the economy, countering the financing of terrorism and the fight against drug money laundering and other issues were discussed at the meeting.

The federal budget surplus will total 1943.7 billion roubles in 2008. The data was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin at a briefing following the Government’s Budget Commission meeting

The expenditure growth will amount to 120.4 billion roubles in 2008. Foreign loans are planned at 10 billion roubles. According to Mr Kudrin, the latter are tied loans, aimed at supporting Russia’s exports.

During his working trip to Tatarstan Vladimir Putin familiarized with the operation of the Severstalavto-Yelabuga auto assembly plant, met with President Mintimer Shaimiyev of Tatarstan and chaired a meeting on the development of the auto industry.
