Born on March 1, 1956, in Perm, to a family of oil industry workers.
1978: graduated from the Perm Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Mining Engineering.
As a student, Mr Trutnev interned with Polaznaneft and Komineft oil companies as an assistant drill-operator and then drill-operator of oil and gas production equipment.
1978: engineer and junior research associate at PermNIPIneft, a design institute developing oil and gas production equipment.
1981-1988: worked at Perm city and regional Young Communist League (YCL) committees and the regional sports committee.
1988: founded and headed the Kontakt physical fitness and recreation association.
1990: CEO of EKS LIMITED Co.
1996: CEO of shareholding company E.K.S. International comprising EKS Group enterprises.
1994: deputy of the Perm regional legislature and Chairman of its Economic Policy and Taxation Committee.
December 1996: elected Perm Mayor.
December 9, 1996: sworn in as Perm Mayor.
December 2000: elected Governor of the Perm Region.
March 9, 2004: appointed Natural Resources Minister.
State awards: Order of Merit (1988) and the Russian Government's Honorary Certificate (2006).
Married, with five children.
Holds a 3rd Dan in the Kyokushin karate style and enjoys a variety of sports.
