Prime Minister Putin visited the Mendeleyev Tyumen Region Research Library, which offers its readers an opportunity to access its online database. The prime minister browsed the library's archives using a touchpad navigation panel and toured a service centre and a supervised children's room, where he played tic-tac-toe on a sensor display with a boy and a girl. "The game ended in a draw," said the prime minister after the game.

Mr Putin also toured the main reading room, where he was offered an opportunity to be registered as the library's reader and receive a reader's electronic membership card. It took a couple of minutes to take Mr Putin's photo and issue a membership card for him. After that the prime minister headed for the reading room to test his membership card.

He browsed the library's intranet to select a few books from a catalogue. A librarian told Mr Putin that readers can access the intranet and multimedia depositaries, the internet and reference databases from a reading room. In addition, the library boasts a comprehensive electronic browser and an automatic book delivery system.

Mr Putin also toured the Tyumen branch of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library on the second floor of the library. He was shown a recreation room equipped with interactive acoustic armchairs with internet access as well as scanners that can digitalise even ancient books.
