First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov held a meeting of the Government Commission on Protection Measures in Foreign Trade and Customs and Tariff Policy
The Commission adopted a number of resolutions aimed at supporting domestic producers during the economic downturn.
Specifically, the Commission, based on the discussions held, agreed to set a 10% import duty on certain types of tropical oils supplied in bulk. The reduced imports of tropical oils will support the domestic producers of dairy and vegetable oils and will contribute to the increased quality of dairy products.
The Commission recommended the Government to permanently extend the validity of import duty rates on certain types of chemical materials used in tanning and shoe industry, inclusive. These materials include extracts of acacia, sumach, oak, as well as certain brands of rubber, and other materials.
The Commission decided to replace the ad valorem import duty rate on cellular polycarbonate with a combined import duty rate, setting it at the level of 10%, but no less than 0.34 euro per 1 kg. This measure will ensure that the customs duty is duly levied whenever the customs value is understated.
The Commission also supported the proposal to set the import duty on washing machines, dryers, and ironing machines at the level between 5% and 10% of the customs value.
In conclusion, the Commission decided to retain the import duty rates on certain types of energy equipment, wooden cabinet household furniture, terephthalic acid, and polyethylene. Also, it was decided to retain the export duty rates on secondary aluminium alloys.
