First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov visited the Boeing Design Centre in Moscow
3 june 2009
The First Deputy Prime Minister reviewed the work being carried out at the Centre, including that of the Russian engineers who are involved in developing a range of modifications for contemporary aircraft. Boeing's Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer James McNerney showed Igor Shuvalov the blueprints for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which Russian engineers are actively working on. Boeing representatives emphasised that about 30% of the design work was carried out by specialists from Russia.
During the visit, the First Deputy Prime Minister toured the offices where Russian engineers and designers work. He praised the centre's communications facilities which allow complex engineering decisions to be made in real time, with input from all over the world, including those at Boeing's head design centre in the US.
Mr Shuvalov was particularly impressed with the training facility where up to 30 engineers can undergo training and raise their qualifications.
Mr Shuvalov was familiarised with the joint Russian-American project in the Sverdlovsk region. The project between Boeing and VSMPO-Avisma has a start-up date in the beginning of July. A new enterprise, Ural Boeing Manufacturing, based in Verkhnaya Salda, will produce titanium components for the domestic and foreign aviation industry, including parts for the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
