Arkady Dvorkovich holds a meeting on the fire in the Russian Post’s central office

The meeting was attended by Communications and Mass Media Minister Nikolai Nikiforov, Russian Post Head Dmitry Strashnov, representatives of the Communications Ministry, the Interior Ministry, the Emergencies Ministry, and the Government Staff.

The meeting's participants discussed the recovery operations dealing with the aftermath of the fire on May 13 at the Russian Post's central office in Moscow. Mr Strashnov reported that on Tuesday night the Russian Post had resumed all its services, the tracking system had been restored and all information had been preserved.

The head of the Russian Post said that the Centre for Handling International Mail had been transferred to Vnukovo and that work would be conducted 24 hours a day. Additional Russian Post and the Federal Customs Service employees will be stationed there. He also suggested that during the recovery period, the grounds of the post office by Kazansky Railway Station should be used to handle correspondence delivered from abroad.

The agenda included a discussion of measures to ensure fire safety and uninterrupted power supply.

The Deputy Prime Minister ordered the Russian Post together with the Communications and Emergencies Ministries to correct fire safety violations, adding that they must do this within the required time period.
