Dmitry Medvedev takes part in the opening of the VI Russkiy Mir Assembly “Russian Language and Russian History”

A Russkiy Mir Assembly is an annual event of the Russkiy Mir (Russian World) Foundation traditionally held on the Day of National Unity.

The assembly incorporates discussions, round tables, topical sections and workshops on major issues in the areas of the Russian language, culture, history and philosophy.

Over a thousand Russian and foreign representatives of the Russian world take part in the assembly: university lecturers, Russian language and literature teachers, prominent Russian scientists and cultural figures, heads of compatriots' associations and Russian-language media, representatives of Russian communities around the world, experts, diplomats and the clergy.

The Russkiy Mir Foundation was set up in 2007. The Foundation's objectives are to promote the Russian language as part of Russia's national heritage and an integral element in the Russian and global culture, as well as to support Russian language teaching programmes both in Russia and overseas.
