Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev visits an exhibition of innovative products organised as part of the Open Innovations forum in Moscow

"Open Innovations", an international forum for innovative development, will take place in the Expocentre Exhibition Complex from 31 October to 2 November 2012.

The forum will be held under the auspices of the Russian Government. The head of the Organising Committee is Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of the Government Staff Vladislav Surkov.

The organisers of the forum are the Moscow Government, RusNano, the Development Foundation of the Centre for Development and Commercialisation of New Technology, the Russian Venture Company and Vnesheconombank.

The aims of the forum are to create an international communication platform focused on the search for new solutions in the field of innovation, and to promote international cooperation in the development of high technology.

The forum will examine the conditions necessary for achieving a technological breakthrough, allow participants to exchange experiences in managing industrial innovation, and analyse successful practices in creating innovative ecosystems.

The forum will be attended by leading Russian and foreign experts, businessmen, and representatives of major innovation companies, scientists and venture capitalists.

Speakers will include the world's leading experts in the field of innovation and development.

The programme includes roundtables, panel discussions and plenary sessions.

In the plenary sessions "Global Challenges to Humanity: Demand for Innovation" and "The World in 2030: Vision, Opportunities, and Risks", forum participants will discuss existing and foreseeable threats to mankind and ways of countering them through innovation, the impact of innovation on the development of the global economy and of society as a whole, as well as control of global innovation processes.

The forum also includes a major exhibition called "OpenInnovationsExpo", involving leading high-tech companies. It will for the first time allow project designers, experts, clients and investors to get together in one place.

Particular attention will be focused at the forum on the practical integration of the Glonass satellite navigation system into economic and social domains. Navigation methods for traffic management and vehicle monitoring will be demonstrated, as well as intelligent transport schemes and the Era-Glonass system of rapid response to traffic accidents.
