Prime Minister Vladimir Putin launches a new combined cycle gas turbine unit at the Kirishi Thermal Power Plant during his working visit to the Leningrad Region

Participants:

Upon being launched by the Prime Minister, the plant's new three-turbine combined cycle gas turbine unit – Russia's most powerful facility of the kind – reached its nominal capacity of 800 megawatts.

Prior to launching the turbine, Vladimir Putin familiarised himself with general information on the OGK-2 power generating company, which operates the power plant. The prime minister viewed information stands and the unit, with special light equipment showing an animated display on the turbine's steel case and demonstrating its work as seen from the outside.

Putting the 800-megawatt facility into operation is the biggest launch of a single power generating unit in Russia in the past 30 years, OGK-2 representatives said. With the launch of the unit, which is Russia's biggest combined cycle gas turbine, the general capacity of Kirishi Power Plant has reached 2.6 gigawatts.
