Prime Minister Vladimir Putin visits the regional clinical hospital while on a working visit to Smolensk

The Smolensk Regional Clinical Hospital comprises nine medical and five auxiliary facilities.

The hospital provides advanced specialised in-patient and outpatient medical care to local adults and children in 30 medical specialties.

The hospital is licensed to perform high-tech medical care in cardiology, neurology, neurosurgery, traumatology and orthopedic surgery.

The in-patient department has 1,150 beds, with 690 beds for surgical patients and 460 beds for patients receiving therapeutic service, including 140 beds for children. The department has 26 operating suites.

The regional hospital includes a consultation healthcare outpatient department, which serves 500 patients per day and provides aid to patients in 27 medical specialties. The facility includes an audiology centre and a glaucoma diagnosing and treatment room.

In 2010, a total of 152 endoprosthetic replacement operations were performed at the hospital's traumatology and orthopedic surgery department, while 115 operations have been performed in 2011. The department serves as a base for training doctors and paramedical personnel to work at the Federal Centre for Traumatology, Orthopedic Surgery and Endoprosthetic Replacement, which is currently under construction in Smolensk.

The regional clinical hospital includes 16 departments of the Smolensk State Medical Academy, whose personnel participate in treatment and diagnostic activities.

The hospital employs 317 doctors and 585 paramedical workers.

In October 2009, a regional vascular centre was established at the regional hospital. The centre has a neurology unit with 30 beds for treatment and early rehabilitation care for patients with acute cerebrovascular diseases, including the intensive care ward with six beds, as well as a cardiology unit with 30 beds for treatment and early rehabilitation care for patients with acute myocardial infarction and acute coronary syndrome, a room providing X-ray and surgical diagnostics techniques, and a neurosurgical operating suite to perform urgent operations on patients with vascular diseases.

In 2011, the centre provided specialised medical services for 758 patients, which is 39% more than in 2010. The cardiology unit specialists extensively use the methods of angiography, balloon angioplasty and coronary arteries stent angioplasty.
