“It is clear that bad roads objectively hinder Russia’s economic development and are having a negative impact on safety and the environment. Of course, we have been working recently to improve the situation. We have gathered good speed in road building, even in spite of the crisis.”

The production of road construction machinery is one of the leading industries in Russia's engineering sector, which supplies domestic and international markets with excavators, bulldozers, motor-driven graders, truck cranes and other heavy machinery. 5,500 units of equipment were sold in 2010 with an estimated value of 76.9 billion roubles, which is a 12% increase in comparison with 2009, when 4,901 units valued at 52.1 billion roubles were produced). In 2010 2,097 excavators were produced in Russia, or 55.7% more than in 2009. However, only 20% of all excavators were manufactured by domestic companies. During January-March 2011, 591 excavators were produced in Russia.

At the same time, 940 bulldozers were produced in 2010, which is an increase of 31.1% from 2009; during January-March 2011, 592 bulldozers were produced. In 2010 2,475 bulldozers were sold in Russia, only 34% of which were made by Russian companies.

In 2010 the manufacture of autograders increased by 42.9% in comparison to 2009 to 943 units. During January-April 2011, 357 autograders were manufactured. In 2010, 1112 autograders were sold in Russia, 79% of which were produced in Russia.

In 2010, 2,735 truck cranes were produced, which is an increase of 217.6% from 2009; during January-April 2011, 1,254 cranes were manufactured. 70% of the 2,449 cranes sold in 2010 were manufactured by Russian companies.
