The government census worker, a girl in a blue scarf carrying a briefcase, arrived at the prime minister's residence in the evening. Introducing herself as Yevgenia, she asked Vladimir and Lyudmila Putin to take part in the census.

"The census is being conducted as of midnight of October 14, so all the questions that I will ask will pertain to this date," said the census worker, who asked for complete passport information from the prime minister and his wife.

One of her questions made Mr Putin stop to think: "On October 14, were you at home and if not - why and where were you?" Mr Putin replied, "Yes, I was in Sochi, I was working, and I met with members of the International Olympic Committee."

During the detailed survey, Vladimir Putin said that he was born on October 7, 1952, was 58 years old and his birthplace was the city of Leningrad.

"I'm married, a citizen of the Russian Federation and an ethnic Russian," he continued in response to the questions.

"What are the sources of your livelihood?" asked Yevgenia, somewhat confused.

"My job, I have no other sources of income," replied Mr Putin.

Yevgenia then asked his wife the same questions. Lyudmila Putin said that she was born on January 6, 1958, is married, has Russian citizenship, is an ethnic Russian and has received higher education. When asked which languages she spoke, she listed German, Spanish and French.

After completing her work, the census worker thanked Mr Putin and his wife for taking part in the census and gave them a commemorative ribbon.
