1988: graduated from the Translation Department of the Moscow Maurice Thorez State Institute of Foreign Languages, and then from the German Department of Leipzig University.
1988-1993: editor of the European Department at the TASS/ITAR-TASS news agency.
1993-1997: ITAR-TASS correspondent in Paris.
After returning to Russia: editor-in-chief of the European Department at ITAR-TASS and deputy director of the ITAR-TASS news service.
1998: Deputy Head of the Government Information Directorate of the Russian Government Office.
1998: Press Secretary to the Russian Prime Minister, and then Head of the Government Information Directorate.
May 1999: Advisor to the Russian Prime Minister.
January 2000: Head of the Presidential Press Service.
January 2002: Head of the Presidential Protocol.
May 12, 2008: appointed Telecommunications and Mass Communications Minister of the Russian Federation.
