The National Research Centre Kurchatov Institute was established by the Federal Law On the National Research Centre Kurchatov Institute.

The centre is a nonprofit research organisation incorporated as a federal state institution and based on operational management.

President: Professor Yevgeny Velikhov, DSc (Physics and Mathematics), Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Director: Professor Mikhail Kovalchuk, DSc (Physics and Mathematics), Associate Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
