The Legislative Commission was set up to ensure the lawmaking activities of the Government and its interaction with the houses of Russia's Federal Assembly (parliament). 

The Commission has the following responsibilities:

• to improve the lawmaking activities of the Government and boost the quality of lawmaking of the federal bodies of executive authority responsible for drafting state policy and legal regulation in this sphere;

•  to formulate the Government's position on draft laws and laws considered in the houses of the Federal Assembly;

• other lawmaking objectives.
