First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov met with Canadian Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz at the Government House

The two sides noted the positive trends and progressive development of trade and economic relations between the two countries naming the Intergovernmental Economic Commission and the Russian-Canadian Business Council as its main instruments.
The meeting was held at the request of the Canadian side.

Bilateral cooperation between Russia and Canada in the sphere of agriculture was discussed.

The two sides noted the positive trends and progressive development of trade and economic relations between the two countries naming the Intergovernmental Economic Commission and the Russian-Canadian Business Council as its main instruments.

The most important bilateral cooperation spheres mentioned were the resumption of Russian purchases of pedigree cattle and breeding material from Canada, and the use of Canadian experience in the development and improvement of agrobusiness.

A tentative agreement was reached during the meeting on the exchange of delegations to study the experience of agricultural production, processing, wholesale and retail trade.
