First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov chairs meeting of the Customs Union Commission

Participants:

The participants in the meeting discussed the Customs Union's parameters, including the disbursement of customs-duty revenues and other continuing efforts to create a common economic space.

Summing up the results of the Commission's work, Mr Shuvalov said they had agreed on the main principles of disbursing customs-duty revenues. The sides also agreed on specific ways for modifying customs tariffs. "We have reached a conclusion that the formulation of customs tariffs must imply a predictable and consistent policy. Although these issues should not require constant discussion, we are ready to pass such decisions at every meeting of the Customs Union Commission in the first months when the system is being fine-tuned," Mr Shuvalov said.

He noted that customs tariffs should be revised every six months as planned. Mr Shuvalov said the Commission had discussed the relevant procedure for signing agreements on the creation of a common economic space involving Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. In his opinion, most of the agreements will be approved throughout 2010, and that the relevant decisions on all other issues will be adopted in 2011, respectively. He indicated this included 20 agreements, and that "their operation will require certain supra-national regulation."
