A number of bilateral agreements were signed in the presence of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and his Kazakh counterpart Karim Masimov after their meeting in Yalta

Participants:

Agreements finalised at the meeting include:

- protocol for amendments to the June 7, 2002 agreement between Russia and Kazakhstan on oil transit;

- intergovernmental agreement on measures to guarantee parallel operation of Russia and Kazakhstan's unified energy systems;

- agreement establishing favourable tariffs for the transit of Kazakh goods through Russian territory and of Russian goods through Kazakh territory;

- agreement on indicative terms of the construction of the third power generation unit at the Ekibastuz GRES-2 power station;

- memorandum of intent between Sollers and AziaAvto to construct a joint automobile factory in Kazakhstan;

- additional measures as a part of the December 7, 2006 comprehensive programme to promote bilateral cooperation in peaceful nuclear energy. These measures include joint projects to produce natural and enriched uranium, and design and construct nuclear energy facilities in Kazakhstan.

Vladimir Putin's statement after the signing ceremony:

I think it would be improper for us to just leave. I would like to thank all our Russian and Kazakh colleagues. We have just mentioned that there is not a single meaningless document, nor is there a single framework document, although such documents do have a certain value.

I fully agree with my colleagues that everything that has been done today could have been timed to coincide with a major political event.

Just look - these agreements involve energy, hydrocarbons and energy conservation, as well as investment, transport, and nuclear energy. In fact, the whole package.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev had to get personally involved. I discussed a number of issues with him, because some problems would not have been resolved without his involvement. He was directly involved in the talks.

Experts, the relevant government ministries and businesspeople also contributed a lot, in this case regarding engineering.

We have all accomplished a lot. Thank you very much. Congratulations to everyone.
