Viktor Zubkov, First Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gazprom, made an official visit to Sochi, where he inspected construction projects connected with the Sochi 2014 Olympic in which Gazprom has investing and chaired a meeting on related issues.

"Despite this year's hostile financial climate, Gazprom has kept construction work on Olympic sites on schedule, and has set up the right conditions to ensure that these Olympic projects are constructed and commissioned on time," said Mr Zubkov, opening the meeting. "Every day we undertake painstaking work on the effective use of allocated resources to ensure that we achieve this," he added.

Mr Zubkov noted that the main emphasis is on complex infrastructure projects that are useful independently of the Olympics. "These facilities under construction will play a crucial role in Sochi's sustainable growth, in improving the quality of life for its population, and in turning Sochi and Krasnaya Poliana into world-class tourist destinations," stressed the First Deputy Prime Minister.

Mr Zubkov also emphasized the importance that all parties involved in the Olympic project, without exception, follow strict ecological standards.

Currently Gazprom is involved in four Olympic sites. They are:
1. A ski resort to accommodate up to 16,000 people, which will include a four star hotel with 600 rooms.
2. A mountain tourist centre, which will includes a five star hotel, ski slopes, cable cars, and other transportation and utilities infrastructure.
3. The Djubga-Lazarevskoe-Sochi gas pipeline, part of which will run along the bottom of the Black Sea. The construction of the undersea section is due to begin in March of 2010.
4. The Adler Thermal Power Station.
