Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov chaired a meeting of the Government Commission for Transport and Communications

Addressing the meeting, Mr Ivanov said Russian software should be more actively introduced in strategic economic sectors, including the defence industry. The Deputy Prime Minister said an overwhelming majority of sensitive Russian economic sectors, as well as state administration, were using foreign software, and that this situation was unacceptable.

Mr Ivanov said some strategic economic sectors, including the defence industry, had developed advanced software which was also being used by the civilian sector, including design agencies.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media, industry-association experts and the scientific community had drafted proposals "to prioritise goods of Russian origin in state and municipal purchases, the amending of taxation and pension legislation and the simplifying of export and currency control proceedings."

Mr Ivanov said "Russian IT companies largely owe their good reputation to the quality of their products." The Deputy Prime Minister noted antivirus software and the development of intellectual data-processing networks.
