Mr Putin was shown an automated system for controlling state evaluation of mineral reserves. 

Mr Putin saw how the development of deposits by subsoil users is controlled, and asked for an example. Head of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use Anatoly Ledovskikh said that the Yuzhno-Russkoye deposit could serve as a good example.

Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin added that after analyzing the deposit's development, the commission extended TNK-BP's license.

Mr Putin was also shown the latest technology in geological prospecting and extraction using the Priobskoye oil deposit as an example.

Mr Putin asked what other deposits were being reviewed by the commission. Deputy Head of the commission Yevgeny Areshev said that it was monitoring nine deposits, including those in Urengoy and Yamal, and cited the Zapadno-Pestsovoye gas field as an example.

Mr Putin asked how much time it takes to confirm the reserves of a deposit, and Mr Areshev said that this is a five-year process.

Mr Putin's attention was drawn to a map of Eurasia's gas industry. He asked about the extent of gas reserves in the north. Yevgeny Areshev replied, pointing at the map: "Here we have 12 trillion cubic meters, and this is in the Kara Sea alone." "Very impressive," Mr Putin said.
