On May 15, Dmitry Medvedev will take part in the 3rd St Petersburg International Legal Forum

On May 15, Dmitry Medvedev will take part in the 3rd St. Petersburg International Legal Forum. He will speak at the forum’s plenary session “Competition and Cooperation between Legal Systems: The Role of Law in Ensuring the Development of Society, the State and the Economy.”

The forum will focus on public law, corporate practice, judicial and arbitration practice, standards of the legal profession, finance and investment, trade and competition, telecommunications and innovation, intellectual property, sports law, natural resources and energy, cultural heritage, and notaries.

The forum will be attended by Minister of Justice Alexander Konovalov, head of the Constitutional Court Valery Zorkin, head of the Supreme Commercial Court Anton Ivanov, leading world experts in economics, law, and international relations, heads of legal departments at the largest global corporations, and representatives of the international legal community.

The St Petersburg International Legal Forum was established in 2011 by the Ministry of Justice and is held with the support of the Russian President. The forum is a major platform for dialogue between politicians, lawyers, economists, and scholars representing all major economic and legal systems.

The forum’s mission is to promote modernisation of law in the context of global changes, including efforts to:

-   improve cooperation between legal systems and formulate common approaches to the problems of law in the context of globalisation;

-   modernise the Russian legal system, taking into account the best international legal practices, bring Russian legislation into compliance with international standards for protecting the rights and interests of all subjects of legal relations (including entrepreneurs, foreign investors, copyright holders, and others);

- facilitate the development of modern legal science and education in Russia and across the globe.
