Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich pays a working visit to Ashgabat

Deputy Prime Minister and Arkady Dvorkovich met with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov during his visit to Ashgabat. Later he, as co-chairman of the Russian-Turkmen intergovernmental commission, met with Rashid Meredov, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and co-chairman of the Russian-Turkmen intergovernmental commission on the Turkmen side. This meeting was attended by representatives of departments and companies of both countries.

At the beginning of the talks, Mr Meredov said that the meeting with the Turkmen president was good, useful and took place in a friendly atmosphere. “We have discussed the main areas of our cooperation,” he said.

According to Mr Berdymukhammedov, Russia and Turkmenistan have established a solid foundation for cooperation. “This is a good foundation for the further development of our relations,” he said. Mr Dvorkovich thanked his Turkmen colleagues for a friendly welcome. “I truly believe that we have enormous potential," he said. "We should move forward in many areas, expanding our cooperation. As for complex issues, we should look for new, creative approaches and move on.”

During the meeting Mr Dvorkovich and Mr Meredov discussed bilateral relations,  the work of Russian companies in the Turkmen market, cooperation in the economy, the fuel and energy sector, the military-technical sphere, education and culture, and ties between their regions. They spoke about the intergovernmental agreement on countering illegal drug trafficking, Turkmenistan’s activities in the CIS and economic integration within the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space. Mr Dvorkovich presented the Russian Agency for Export Credit and Investment Insurance (EXIAR). He also visited the Pushkin Turkmen-Russian general educational school and the international equestrian complex.
