The Beringia National Park has been established

The national park was established in order to promote the preservation of unique natural and historical sites in the highland and lowland tundra and the coast of the Chukchi Peninsula, the development of tourism in the region and environmental education programmes.

The national park with a total area 1,819,454 hectares comprises water resource land, reserve land and agricultural land (without removing it from commercial use) in the Providensky, Chukotsky and Iultinsky municipal districts of the Chukotka Autonomous Area and is under the jurisdiction of the of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources.

The establishment and operation of the national park will be effected within the budgetary assignations of the federal budget allocated for the Natural Resources Ministry's measures to support the activities of subordinate institutions.
