Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev lay flowers at the monument to Pyotr Stolypin

The monument to Pyotr Stolypin is located on the Free Russia Square near the Government House in Moscow.

After the flower-laying ceremony, Mr Putin and Mr Medvedev spoke to the sculptors.

The monument was installed to mark the 150th anniversary of Stolypin's birth. On July 13, 2011, in the presence of then Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, the groundbreaking ceremony was held. In July 2011, Mr Putin called for the Government members to make their contribution to the construction of the monument. At his initiative, a fundraising account was opened.

Work to install the monument near the Government House began on November 22, 2012.

Pyotr Stolypin, an outstanding Russian statesman, was born on April 15, 1862. He is regarded as a great reformer in the history of Russia. Due to the reforms he implemented as Prime Minister, before World War I Russia was the world's fifth in terms of economic growth and managed to establish a favourable investment and tax climate for business and entrepreneurship. Stolypin was assassinated in 1911 and buried at Kiev's Pechersk Lavra monastery.
