Meeting with Transport Minister Igor Levitin, Industry and Trade Minister Viktor Khristenko and Vladimir Yakunin, president of Russian Railways

"We should proceed with the conviction that Russian money-both corporate and government money-should work within the Russian economy. Everyone involved-whether in mining, steel or machine production-should consider the current situation when formulating cost parameters, and should not forget imports as an alternative".

Vladimir Putin: Good afternoon,

We approved the Russian Transport Development Strategy through 2030 two days ago, and the Railway Transport Development Strategy earlier, about the same time as the Transport Engineering Development Strategy. We won't overlook aviation, either.

We have gathered now to discuss implementation options within the context of global financial and economic problems.

I mention the world economy because many of our projects involve cooperation with international partners. We need to consider current challenges in project collaboration with our partners.

At the same time, we should proceed with the conviction that Russian money-both corporate and government money-should work within the Russian economy. Everyone involved-whether in mining, steel or machine production-should consider the current situation when formulating cost parameters, and should not forget imports as an alternative.

The Industry and the Trade and Transport ministries will soon have a series of meetings with those involved in this process, including representatives of the financial sector, to elaborate the details of a format to work together to accomplish our objectives.

Thank you.
