The Fallen Heroes Memorial in northern Hanoi was opened on May 7, 1995, during the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Vietnamese victory over the French in the Battle of Dien Bien Phu. Standing 12 metres high, its main part is in the form of four adjacent white-granite arches. The centerpiece of this space is a bronze ritual bowl.

Ho Chi Minh was President of Vietnam from 1955 to 1969; he was also the founder of Vietnam’s Communist Party.
