Dmitry Medvedev meets with Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov in St Petersburg

At the beginning of the meeting Dmitry Medvedev wished his counterpart a happy birthday. "The Russian delegation would like to wish you a happy birthday. I hope that you will spend an interesting day and that you will have fond memories of it," the Prime Minister said, admitting that on his own birthday he liked "finding somewhere to hide away." "To be honest, when we were discussing these dates I completely forgot that they coincided with your birthday. I bow to your tact – you didn't give anything away. But on the other hand there is a certain logic to it," he added.

Medvedev then proposed discussing bilateral economic issues with Massimov, as well as the future prospects for bilateral cooperation, and expressed the hope that the initiatives would be implemented through concrete agreements. "We met two weeks ago but in that time we have already achieved much," Massimov stressed in reply.

He recalled that one week ago during President Vladimir Putin's visit to Astana the basic cooperation agreement between the two countries was extended by 10 years. Karim Massimov also thanked the Russian Prime Minister for Russia's decision to appoint First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov as co-chairman of the bilateral intergovernmental commission. "This is a symbol of the high level of our relations," Medvedev replied.
