Dmitry Medvedev meets with Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich in St Petersburg

During the meeting, Mikhail Myasnikovich announced that Belarus proposes a joint venture between MAZ and KamAZ on a parity basis. "Currently, this is not about the price. We need to agree on a degree of involvement in this joint venture. We are ready for parity provided that the company will be manageable," he said. "We are currently discussing this with our colleagues and I hope we will find a solution. We hope you will support this for your part," the Belarusian Prime Minister told Dmitry Medvedev, adding that he hoped the creation of the joint venture would be given an impetus.

For his part, Dmitry Medvedev admitted there are issues that require additional discussion, but "generally, the results are good," he said. "Our bilateral relations are developing quite well despite the disturbing situation in the financial markets," the Russian Prime Minister added.

Myasnikovich agreed, and noted that collaboration within the Customs Union is one of the reasons for the success. "There are, of course, some loose ends that need to be tied up and some issues that need to be addressed but that can be solved through joint efforts," he said.

The Prime Minister of Belarus also suggested that the heads of government of the Union State meet in the near future. "I would like to invite you to visit Belarus sometime soon and perhaps hold a meeting of the Union State government. If we could hold this meeting in July, that would be good," he said.
