First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov chairs a meeting of the Sub-Commission for Customs Tariff and Non-Tariff Regulation and Protective Measures in Foreign Trade under the Government Commission for Economic Development and Integration

Members of the sub-commission approved the reduction of customs duties for forwarders from 25% to 10% in one year. The measure is aimed at supporting the development of the timber industry.

The meeting participants agreed on removing the import duty on cobalt powder and simultaneously including it in a subheading of the Harmonised Commodity Description and Coding System (which currently stands at 15%).

At the end of the discussion, the meeting participants decided to leave the current 10% import customs duty on aluminium strip used in the production of beverage cans unaltered.

The meeting participants also deemed it appropriate to implement a special protective measure on activated coal worth $0.45 per kilogramme. The measure was recommended to be applied for three years.

The sub-commission's decisions were submitted to the Customs Union's commission for consideration.

The removal of import duties on trimers and tetramers will be examined in the fourth quarter of 2011with due account of import rates and an assessment of the state of domestic production in 2010-2011.
