Prime Minister Vladimir Putin examines newest weather surveillance radar as part of his working visit to the Novgorod Region

Participants:

The DMRL-S weather surveillance radar, located on the outskirts of the town of Valdai, provides direct meteorological data on the area within a 250 kilometre radius.

Concern PVO Almaz-Antey developed the radar, which uses the compound signal technology previously used only in air traffic control equipment and military devices. The radar is three or four times more efficient than foreign equivalents in some aspects. The radar is highly reliable and has lower operating costs due to the use of digital technology.

Specialists believe this radar will allow people to forecast unusual weather conditions such as freezing rain and tornados.
