First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov chairs a meeting of the Migration Policy Commission

Participants:

The meeting was attended by head of the Federal Migration Service Konstantin Romodanovsky and representatives of the ministries, departments, NGOs, and research institutes comprising the commission.

Commission members considered a draft document titled Principles of the State Migration Policy of the Russian Federation, which was prepared with the assistance of federal executive bodies and OPORA RUSSIA, an organisation of small and medium-sized businesses.

Based on the views exchanged by representatives of non-government organisations and the research community, it was decided to postpone the draft's approval until it is revised and improved.

In particular, the document is intended to create better conditions for regulating migration to the benefit of the Russian economy and demographic situation.

Such measures involve removing unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles and establishing a legal, transparent, and effective system of migration control.
